We’ve made it to Vancouver

Well… we are finally here and so far so good. How we made it here, well that’s a different story.

Lets go back to yesterday for a moment. Like any other trip we had prepared everything, our bags we overloaded, we had paperwork for things we didn’t need and we were super excited.

Katie was going to the airport with her parents from Salisbury and I was going with my mum, sister and niece from Chelmsford. So we both set off for the airport and after a while everything was going great…. for Katie. I on the other hand had some big problems.

We set off without checking for any incidents and unfortunately there had been huge car crash on the M25 northbound, which is the way we went.  After being hopeful, optimist, wishful etc… It suddenly dawned on me that I wasn’t going to make the flights (bad times) and this was quite stressful to say the least. I called up the airline and tried to see what other flights they had and luckily there were a few connecting flights.  By this time, Katie was already at the airport and she was checking with the airline ticket desk too, she managed to get a better deal than I did which was good.

After a 5 hour drive, I finally made it to the airport (thanks sis and mum, I wont thank my niece as she was sleeping the whole way…. she is a baby I guess).

Anyway we were both there, we said goodbye to our families and we went to get the tickets for the new flights (London to Calgary to Vancouver) and checked in. We were both exhausted and we didn’t have much time, which didn’t help when we realised that instead of walking towards the lounge and gates, we were actually heading towards the car park :P

We eventually found the right way to go, went through the security checks, and like always I was touched by the security man.  We didn’t have anything dodgy on us so we got through ok, had something to eat and then got on the plane.

From then on everything seemed to go much smoother, the flights was great (nice one Air Canada), it went by really quickly and before we knew it we were in Calgary waiting for the connected flight. An hour and a half after and a time zone later we found ourselves in Vancouver airport and then we took a cab to the hostel, Hi-Vancouver Downtown hostel.

So all in all, we are now back on track and waiting for a new day to start.

I don’t have jet lag yet but I’m sure it will kick in at some stage.  It’s now only 6.30AM and I’m ready to get started as there’s a lot happening today but no one else is up so I’ll have to wait.

We have sorted out our sim cards but it’s a bit weird in over here. The number we have at the moment will have to change when we go up to whistler (don’t ask me why, different area/region i think), so i’ll send you my number in a few weeks once we are there. Skype will be best untill then.
